Best List of Romantic Comedies Ever

There is only one reason why I created this blog about top romantic comedies and it’s because I love watching them again and again and again. Who doesn’t love these top romantic comedies? A good ole boy-meet-girl, boy-loses-girl, boy-gets-girl-again story is a classic Hollywood tale loved by both sexes of all ages.

Watching our on-screen heroes fight through personal turmoil and societal pressures to get together is fun. Comedy and heartbreak all roll into one feel-good ending and we can’t wait to watch another one. Here are some of our favorites. So dim the lights, pop the bubbly, and get cozy with my list of recent top romantic comedies.

500 Days of Summer (2009)

(500) Days Of Summer
Starring Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Overview: What I love about this romantic comedy is it is not a love story; rather it is a story of love. Though he’s an architect by training, Tom is writing greeting cards when he meets Summer, who instantly captivates him. They get together but eventually she just wants to be friends.

This is a charmer of romantic comedies and jumps back and forth in time within the 500 days of their relationship. Tom aches for her but she claims not to be interested in romantic love. Near the end, they meet again at a wedding. Will they get together again?

Love Actually (2003)

Love Actually (Blu-ray)
Starring Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Liam Neeson, Alan Rickman, Keira Knightley

Overview: It’s Christmas in England and France. What could be more romantic? This is really many good romantic comedies rolled into one: different stories of different couples in various stages of falling in and out of love. Some are constantly in love while others are on a constant search. Prime Minister David (Grant) loves his new personal assistant Natalie but he cannot tell her. Jamie is a writer who catches his girlfriend cheating. All of their lives are connected by a former rock star named Billy Mack. When you think about it, love is everywhere, actually.

Love Actually is a miracle of romantic choreography and has created a joyful, entertaining date movie that’ll leave you with a smile on your face and an almost irresistible urge to hug somebody. The complicated love lives of seemingly random couples are examined with both tenderness and humor.

Amelie (2001)

Amélie (Blu-ray)
Starring Audrey Tautou, Mathieu Kassovitz and Rufus

Overview: Here is one of the rare top romantic comedies that features an innovative graphical look combined with a good story. Amelie is young innocent girl in the city of lights, Paris.

She lives in her own fantastical world. After growing older, she becomes a server in the center of the city. She finds a treasure that used to belong to someone that lived in her apartment. She returns it to him. His reaction prompts her to dedicate herself to helping others. Soon she is helping everyone but herself? Will she find a way to do it all?

The sunniest face and the greatest acclaim belong to Audrey Tautou, who is new to these shores. A delight in the title role, she’s like a young Audrey Hepburn, making us laugh and feel empathy without feeling manipulated.

Juno (2007)

Juno (Special Edition + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray)
Starring Ellen Page, Michael Cera, and Jennifer Garner

Overview: Juno is a quirky funny 16-year-old high school student in Minnesota. She finds out she is pregnant from a one-time union with her best friend. She decides to put the child up for adoption and finds a yuppie couple who want her baby. One of the yuppies is cool, the other uptight. Will it work?

This highly rated offbeat comedy from writer Diablo Cody beautifully walks the edge between snarky comedy and love story. Michael Cera fans will especially love this quirky entry in the top romantic comedies genre.

Overview: This is one of the most charming top romantic comedies. It can be hard being a clean-cut A-student. Emma Stone plays a high school girl who tells a little fib about losing her virginity in order to gain some street cred. The fib turns into a rumor and soon everyone is in on her sullied reputation.
